Young people

yp

Young people are really important to us all at St Saviour’s. We are passionate about seeing every young person explore, develop and deepen his or her own relationship with Jesus.

We have lots going on – on Sunday mornings, throughout the week, and at our special events. There are times when we just hang out and have fun, times to learn more about life and faith, and times to draw alongside and serve each other and those in our community.

Our groups and events offer places where young people can:

  • Be themselves and be listened to
  • Ask questions and debate issues
  • Share the highs and lows of life
  • Find support and encouragement
  • Have fun and enjoy friendship

For more information about our groups for 11-18 year olds, see below, and have a chat with Jez Ferguson, our youth minister.

Sundays @ 10.30am

Wildfire

For 8-14 year olds (school years 5 to 9) during term-time: great games, lively worship, prayer, Bible teaching and discussion.

To begin with we usually gather with the whole church family for a time of worship and then go out to the church hall for Wildfire. Wildfire is an opportunity to ask questions and let your thinking be challenged and stimulated, as well as offering time for laughs, friendship, support and encouragement. We use games-based teaching, so there’s never a dull moment.

Those who enter school year 10+ have the opportunity to become young leaders.

All-age services

On the first Sunday of the month, we have an all-age service that is family-friendly and informal. It generally includes some children’s activities and songs, puppets, and a short talk suitable for all the family. It’s also an opportunity for our young people to get involved with some drama, tellling stories, giving testimonies, or helping in part of the service. (Wildfire does not run on these Sundays.)

Sunday evenings

Core

For 15-18 year olds (school years 10-13): we meet together in a relaxed and informal setting to get to know each other better and to explore together how to live a life following Jesus. There’s discussion and debate, time to check out what the Bible says, games and activities, prayer and support. There’s tea and coffee, and biscuits to dunk and munch!

Takes place: Sunday evenings, 7.30-9.30pm during term-time (and sometimes during the holidays too – keep an eye on the calendar for up-to-date info)

Venue: church hall, upstairs

During the week

Furnace

For 11-14 year olds (school years 7-9): half the evening is spent hanging out, playing pool, table tennis, Wii, and eating from the tuck shop. During the second half we take an inquisitive look at the Bible, with games-based activities and film clips to illustrate the study. Come along and bring your friends – you are so welcome.

Takes place: Wednesday evenings, 7-8.30pm during term-time

Venue: church hall, upstairs

One-to-ones

Our youth team would love to spend time with you during the week, so if you are free and would like to meet, just get in touch!

Special events

We run lots of other events throughout the year. Here are some examples of the events we hold, but see the events calendar for up-to-date information and more details.

Sleepovers

Occasional supervised events, with the emphasis on staying up later than our parents, having a mad (but safe) time, and eating plenty!

The Light Party

A positive alternative to Halloween, this event is held annually on 31 October. There’s always a real buzz, with plenty of activities, crafts, facepaints, a puppet show, food and drink. Come in a special costume, but no witches or wizards!

It’s an opportunity for all our young people to get involved and have some fun at the same time as helping out.

Youth services

Occasionally we run services specifically for our young people. Always providing something just that little bit different, these services are opportunities to get everyone thinking and moving. So keep an eye on the calendar, or find out more from the office.
