Summer reading

10th July 2018 by office_team

Here are a few tasters of some recent additions to the church library:

Be the Hands and Feet by Nick Vujicic

Born without any arms or legs, Nick gave his life to Christ at 15, started public speaking at 19, and now travels around the world, sharing his own strong faith in God’s goodness and love, and witnessing powerfully for Jesus, as well as being a motivational speaker for companies. Married, with children, he wrote this new book to encourage Christians to share their faith in Jesus. This is an honest and challenging story of a young man with no self-pity but loads of love for God and for people. Inspirational!

Daring To Hope by Katie Davis Majors

This is the author’s second book (the first being Kisses from Katie) and comes thoroughly recommended! Following on from her spending a short mission trip to Uganda as an 18-year old, she ended up returning there and adopting 13 orphaned Ugandan girls, as well as feeding hundreds more!

She recounts her raw struggles with how God did not give her some of the answers she wanted to her prayers, asking, ‘Does He really love me?’ She discovered that at these very times God drew her into a closer, more real relationship with Him than she could possibly have hoped for.

Unlike the first book which is full of ‘Wow’ factor, this second book speaks to all of us in the ordinary, routine lives that we live. It’s about choosing to trust God’s goodness and encountering it in the least expected places.

Daily Reading Bible Notes

Are you put off from reading the Bible because you don’t know where to start? Worry not! In the Bible reading section of the church library (the small bookshelf cabinet) there is one copy each of the current issue of a) Daily Bread b) Encounter with God (for more in-depth Bible study) and c) Life Every Day by popular author Jeff Lucas on lessons from Aaron’s life. There are also plenty of back copies of other booklets – please help yourself!

DVD: Out of the Ashes

A new one (48 mins) on the life of C T Studd, an international cricket celebrity in the 1880s who was from a wealthy family. He gave up his fame and fortune to tell people about Jesus in China, India and Africa (where he died in 1931, aged 70). An incredible but true story!
