I’m sure you must all be aware by now that myself and some of our young people are going on a mission trip. If you want updates on how much money we have raised so far, you just have to look in the Link to see our ‘Fundraising Thermometer’! At the time of writing, we have raised over £1,250. We could not have done this without the support of the church and our young people (even those that aren’t able to go on the trip).
We have done many different fundraising events already, catering for different groups of people. We have had the Smarties tubes, which are ongoing and have been a nice constant flow of money (we worked out you can fit 35 £1 coins in each one!). Another is our Olympic games, which has been a lot of fun to run, with timed, accuracy and throwing events included. A cake sale was also provided one evening. The young people had all made cakes and we raised nearly £200.
We would like to thank Alan Salsbury for his donation of the Jeroboam. I can’t believe we are already filling it for a second time! Along with that, we are running a competition to guess how much money is in the Jeroboam, once it is full the second time. It will be 50p per guess, with prizes for the adult and child winners.
Some of the other events we put on over half term were our ‘Cream Tea Afternoon’ and our ‘Film Friday’. The cream tea went very well, raising £183. The young people dressed up and guided guests to their tables, took coats, and served tea and scones when necessary. During the afternoon there were games, a quiz and piano accompaniment. Film Friday was set in the church and we set it up with comfortable chairs to feel more like a cinema. We had a tuck shop throughout the film. At this event we raised about £73. It was a lovely atmosphere with different age groups watching and laughing together.
Our plans for the future are a quiz on Saturday 11 March 7pm in the hall, a table tennis tournament in the Easter holidays, a car wash and a ‘promises auction’ in May. We have a new online fundraising page that can be found via the church’s Facebook page or directly on www.crowdfunder.co.uk/st-saviours-youth-mission-uganda.
Thank you again to everyone who has supported us with money and time.
Nathan Bendell (Youth Minister)
