Giving to Go to Green
You may have heard Alan briefly announce in church in August that we had won a grant from the Winchester Diocese for Going to Green. Here’s some detail.
The basic premise is that for a six-week period ANY and ALL donations or gifts are matched £ for £ by the diocese. So, we are encouraged to hold as many fund-raising events as we can in a 6-week period, which will run from 21st Sept kicking off with our Quiz Night, through to 2nd November at our Art & Craft Fayre. There will be some other events in between, including our Harvest Lunch with an Auction of Promises. We will be putting out a call for gifts for raffle prizes and tombola etc. (All will be published in upcoming Newsletters.)
The funds raised will be spent on reducing our electricity usage considerably. The current lights have been there since 1978 and are both end of life and for the most part using obsolete and technically-speaking banned light units / bulbs.
The Go to Green money will be used for:
– Changing ALL of the main lights to LED’s
-if we have any money left, also replacing the lights in the upstairs Hall/ youth workers area with LED lights.
Ultimately, we need you to help us in any way you can. It is your Church. It costs a small fortune to run our buildings; the standing charge for our gas meter is currently £207 per month even when we use NO gas!! The electricity meters cost us £109 a month again even if we use NO electricity.
We are actively looking at all sources of grants and or charitable funding as there are numerous other fabric and building requirements that need attention NOT least as winter approaches the main Church boiler which is also at the ‘end of serviceable life’.
Thanks for your time thus far; please keep praying for our efforts in fund-raising, it is appreciated!
The Churchwardens, Pat Smart & Alan Salsbury
